"Marlow Park" Project - Now Underway For five years Mission Trail has struggled with the concept of developing a small triangular "pocket" park on South Presa across from the former Handy Andy Super Market (now Ace Mart Restaurant Supply). Mission Trail proposed a number of redevelopment plans for the park. Local families were contacted and one of the founding families in the Lavaca neighborhood, the Marlows, agreed to support the creation of a neighborhood park. Our first attempt to prepare and then landscape the park area with native plants ended a week after it began when the city removed and discarded all the mulch and other improvements the club had installed. Eugene Simor continued to work on the project with various city departments. The project remained incomplete as the city initiated various street and sidewalk projects in and around the proposed site. In June Kyle Contreras volunteered to revive the Marlow Park Project. Kyle and Eugene Simor reestablished contact with the original project participants and reviewed the previously proposed plans. Southtown Association jump started the project plans being considered by calling for park design proposals for several neighborhood spaces. Below is current Marlow Park Project Chair, Kyle Contreras with the "new" design she submitted on October 21st to Southtown on behalf of Mission Trail Rotary. On November 30, 2005, the Southtown Association selected the design plan submitted by Kyle "the designer" Contreras. Mission Trail Rotary will continues to monitor and support the new Marlow Park in conjunction with Southtown and the City of San Antonio. As of April 2006 meetings are underway with city departments tasked with approval of various aspects of planning and construction. Lighting, irrigation, landscaping, and metal work are in the planning/bidding stage. [Click for Overall Project Plan] [Detail Message Center] ![]() |
