Mission Trail Rotary Goals/Activities

2005-2006


Community Service:

“Book about Me” Project-- to provide individualized books to one or more Kindergarten classes in neighborhood elementary schools.  (Community Service- expand to additional classes/schools) (20)

Missions National Park – initiate a joint project with the Park  Service to help upgrade facilities or services and/or provide volunteers to the Park Service (11)

Mission to Mission Bike Tour – increase family/group participation in the tour to provide funds from registration fees for Meals on Wheels and Rotary charities.  (Community Service – increase budget and participation) (10)

Marlo Pocket Park – recent city actions in the S. Presa area may make this project viable.  Eugene Simor will investigate and make a report to the Executive Committee on the feasibility of restarting the project. (Community Service) (7)

Childrens Advocates San Antonio – Volunteer hours to existing CASA programs and provide funds to specific CASA programs (4)

Girl Scouts – help promote and sponsor GSA Project in SAISD (4)

Tree Project – establish a neighborhood plant a tree project (2)

SA Archdioces – volunteer time and fundraise for improvement of buildings used by  the Catholic Archdioces that fall in Mission Trail Parks (1)

International Student Exchange – publicize and promote Brackenridge students for SE (Community Service) (1)

International Service:

Sister Club ofMonterrey, NL. – expand contacts, exchanges, and partnerships in identified  projects such as acquiring needed fire equipment.  (International Service- increase links) (14)

Polio Plus – maintain one hundred percent participation in Polio Plus (International Service) (12)

Rotary Club of Del Valle, NL – establish joint taskforce to locate and deliver fire, medical, and school equipment to selected sites in Mexico. (9)

Project Africa – create funding and criteria for encouraging small private capital ventures in Africa. (8)

GSE Teams – sponsor/fund GSE Team Members as appropriate – (International Service) (7)

Vocational Service:

Junior Achievement – solicit volunteers to teach Junior Achievement curriculum in local schools. (16)

Vocational Recognition – initiate contact with local businesses through invitations to our breakfast meeting, invitations to participate in Rotary Activities, promotion of local businesses on our website, and possible establishment of  Business Passport Card. (9)

Southtown Passport – Executive Committee will consider reviving this fundraiser. (Club Service) (9)

Speaker Gifts – provide program speakers with listing on MTR website under Programs and/or Rotary Services page. (1)

Club Service:

Membership – increase both membership size and diversity (19)

King William Fair “Kids Kingdom” – supervise the Children’s area of KWF.  Renew efforts to expand the quality and diversity of vendors including “free” craft and educational activities (Club Service- increase quality and participation) (11)

New Members – conduct new member training sessions (5)

Alamo Heights Night -- participate in support of neighborhood non-profits,      , and register to become vendor with proceeds to Rotary charities. (Community & Club Service) (5)

Fundraising – establish unique MTR fundraiser (4)

King William Parade –  Executive Committee will consider making a parade entry an official club activity.  (Club Service) (3)

Rotary Foundation – encourage membership to become Paul Harris fellows (2)

Fat Tuesday Carnival Breakfast -- celebrate Cultural Diversity as part of MTR regular meetings. (Club Service- increase participation and cultural awareness) (2)

Music Under the Stars – MTR participation in National Park Service annual night of music at Mission San Jose (Club Service – increase social activites) (2)

MTR Shirts – design and purchase new shirts for club membership. (Club Service) (2)

Website – refine and maintain MTR site (Club Service) (1)

New Member Project – as part of member education, new members propose/select yearly or on-going Rotary project and then participate in its planning and completion. (1)
